Selfstudy: Step 3 - Work on the magazine

Hello everyone!

Today I'm going to continue working on my main project - Interviews with Ukrainian students who have moved to England.

Here's what I plan to do today:
- Analize the answers of my main characters
- Figure out the concept of the look and feel of the magazine article
- Design the visual appearance of the next 3-4 pages of the magazine

Step 1

I have received answers to all the questions from all the characters in my article, so I have 5 stories, but I'm not sure if I will keep all 5 stories in the final product. Maybe I will choose only 3-4 of the most interesting stories.

I did a small amount of editing on those. I did a little bit of editing from the responses I received. I kept the most necessary, the most emotional, and the most relevant to the context of the project.

Step 2

I drew on paper a rough outline of how I would like to place the information and visuals in my magazine

Then I switch to the Visme platform. I want the reader to read something that would capture their attention and feelings before they discover the main story of any of my characters. I think a quote from a particular character could work great in this situation!

Here's what I did to get started:

Then I already had ready-made information from the characters in my stories, so I chose one of them and posted this information:

Unfortunately, it seems that some details are too small in the photo, but in general they look much better and more visible on the platform

The next page was quite similar, I just placed the text on the left side and added a photo of the hero on the right side. I decided to keep the photo in colour for now, although my original idea was to have black and white photos of all the characters. Maybe later I will change my mind. I also decided to add the name of my magazine, which is the same color as the background, and place it on the photo for an interesting effect.

The last page was the end of this hero's story:

Also, as I said earlier, I lacked something interesting that could immediately attract the reader's attention and dilute the pages visually

I decided to post an additional page with a quote that comes BEFORE the hero story:

Next, I made some changes to the first pages of the table of contents and added information about the first character in the story:
