Initial Ideas & Planing for Photography project "London Portrait"

Image
In my previous post I did told about photo works of  Helen Levitt witch are really inspired me, so after careful consideration I decided to change my topic of shooting to street style documentary photography.  I realised that street style is really what I love to make and talk about. Moreover, for me photography is also about expressing of personal point of view on the environment, people, issues. In my project I would love to show how I see normal life in  London streets, on the other words portrait of this city through people.  Step 1: Planing First of all, I read again my short book with free and beautiful places to visit in London to remind myself about best options to go with a camera.  Next, I needed a plan of places in London where I would love to go. I made a list on my phone with my favourite places full of life and a people.  Of course, all of this place is really a lot and I have a plan to visit only few of those, but it's good to have a reserve options.  Step 2: Inspira

Photography Research: Helen Levitt

Last summer I was on London Soho Photogallery, where I spend few hours and I was fascinated by beautiful authors and them photo works. Finally before leave this place I got book about women revolutionaries photographers of the 20th century. From the book I get know about Helen Levitt, I really love street style photography, so her pictures for me are incredibly interesting and beautiful!  " She  was captured everyday life in the working-class districts of  Spanish Harlem and the LowerEast Side. Her work is packed with images of children documenting  their games and graffiti. " (Bouveresse, 2022) In that period of time between 1938-1960 black and white photography was dominated, especially in street style. To express the feelings from works and style of Helen Levitt I really want to show her short documental film "In the street" 1952 There was interesting to me observe real moment of simple life from after war period of time where little children are playing on the

Self study: First photography shoot for photo project

Image
Hey Team! Today I would like to start my practical steps the main photo project. On my previous blog post  I have already shown the initial ideas and plan for my main photo shoot. In this post, I want to show my model for the shoot, the location and of course process.  The issues addressed in this shoot are quite personal to me, so I wanted to express them through someone who could feel and understand them. I decided to share the idea with my classmate, who became my model for the portrait shoot. Then we were thinking about location for shooting and went to Victoria park in Leicester together on Sunday sunset time, around 15.00 pm. I choose to use my old camera Nikon D3000 and some sitings with lighting. First of all ISO 200, F 5.6 and exposure -0.3. I wanted to create effect of a bit of blurry photo, so was changing ISO from 200 to 400 and several times change exposure from 0.0 to -0.7 There is result witch I got and download to the Contact sheets: In this shooting I managed to create

Initial Ideas & Planing for Photography project

Hi team! Today I will be researching and planing my thoughts and ideas about portrait photography, and I am really exited to start! I was thinking for a long time about what idea I wanted to express and show through portrait photography, and then I recalled that I have been really interested in the psychology of human behaviour for the last three years, reading books, articles and listening to lectures about psychology. So I wanted to connect my personal hobby with the photography. At the moment, it sounds quite confusing and perhaps difficult to put into a photograph, but step by step I believe this interesting idea will be possible to present. Step 1: Planing  Firs of all,  I started with planning on a piece of paper and wrote down a few ideas that came to mind, described what it looked like in my head and what I needed to realise the plan. I separated this plan into three parts, including the main issue I want to address in my portrait shoot.  I also decided that my photo would be n

Studio & Using Natural Light Portrait Practice

Image
Hello team! Today I will show you my own practise with different style of portrait photography which I have done this week in class practise. First of all, we had two practise with a Studio and Natural light. There is result witch I got from Natural Light Portrait : Here we were outside, so I had use ISO 200 and general light setting for outdoors shooting. We have really beautiful houses around and I liked the composition of the colours, first of all I wanted to show the face clearly in the portrait photo and it was perfectly combined with Valeria's clothes and the general black background of the first photo.  F 8, 1/1.3, ISO 200, -1.3 exposure I really like the look in the eyes in this photo and the way the wind helps to make the picture more interesting by blowing the hair around.  F 4.5, 1/250, ISO 200, -0.7 exposure I wanted to add an enigma to the photos to make it deeper and more interesting. Here we decided to experiment and give the viewer the feeling that the model saw so

Above & Below: Class Practice

Image
Today we will create our new photo-project during our classwork witch called "Above & Below" here we will practice to create different angels shoots and setting up the camera. Also we will work with different light and practice portrait photography.  Sounds interesting, so let's have a start!  Class research During the class, we looked at different variations of the photographs showing Kate Moss and the work of Terry O'Neill. After looking at more of this photographer's work, I identified my favourite: Faye Dunaway At the Pool This photo shows the American actress Faye Dunaway the morning after the Oscars. I like the impression she conveys through the photo, a feeling of being slightly tired of everything. This photo also conveys a calm luxury, a woman completely alone by the pool in a gorgeous dress looking directly into the camera, with a lot of news from the newspapers about last night's Oscars under her feet, but she looks so calm, as if she doesn'

Object lesson analysis: Postcard

Image
Today we were given the opportunity to choose one item from among many and share our feelings and thoughts about it. Well, I don't know if it's because of my love for postcards or because of my curiosity about the picture of this card, but I chose the postcard you can see in the photo below. It's called "The Hidden Cathedral drawing series" by Grace Ayson  Probably a few minutes after I made my choice, I regretted it. The feeling of looking at this card is not the best. The feeling of looking out of the window at the city without light and faces at the city. It's quite fuzzy and sad, I feel like I'm in the place of the person looking out of this window, I feel that this person is lonely and their thoughts are grey and cold, just like this card.  This card reminded me of Franz Kafka's short story The Metamorphosis, which I read a few weeks ago. The story is about the main character's transformation into a cockroach. It is a story about family relat
